Arlington, Va. – Crown Consulting Inc., with team lead Burns Engineering, has been awarded a grant by the National Safe Skies Alliance to develop urban air mobility (UAM) airport/vertiport security requirements.

The study, “Security Considerations for Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Operations at Airports, is funded by the Alliance’s Program for Applied Research in Airport Security, an industry-driven, applied research program funded by the Federal Aviation Administration that develops near-term practical solutions to security problems faced by airport operators.

Crown will provide its extensive UAM expertise and background in evolving UAM concepts to align state-of-the-art physical and cyber security for airports with the evolving concepts for UAM, support a gap assessment and develop a roadmap to a sustainable vertiport security system.

The work builds on Crown’s development of NASA’s Vertiport Automation System Concept of Operations, which developed the requirements for automation software and systems integration to support safe and efficient operations at a high density UAM vertiport.

“This work will provide insights to yet another critical dimension of UAM as it continues to fill out the landscape towards a fully integrated and safely operating UAM system,” said Crown Vice President for Science and Research Programs Tom Davis.
