Project Overview

Crown supports the Federal Aviation Administration’s Next Generation Air/Ground Communications (NEXCOM) program with full-service turnkey radio replacement solutions for modernizing air-ground radios serving the National Airspace System.

For more than two decades, we have installed and tested air-ground radios NAS-wide without interrupting air traffic operations, including at remote sites and often in difficult-to-access locations, such as mountainous terrains, and extreme conditions.

Installation services include site surveys, engineering, drafting, site specifications, customized rack fabrication, managing inventory, purchasing, shipping and arranging crew transportation.

Crown teams bring extensive experience supporting NEXCOM implementation through:

  • Survey, design, installation, integration and testing of air-ground radio systems for nearly 1,500 facilities across the contiguous United States, Alaska, Guam and Puerto Rico and fiber-optic transmission systems at U.S. airports.
  • Fabrication and delivery of approximately 4,000 fully assembled radio racks in 48 configurations, sustaining a weekly production rate of six to eight racks.
  • Design, production, and delivery of text boxes at a rate of 12 per week and two mobile communication vehicles for use in emergency operations, such as wildfires in California.
  • Operation of 3,840 square feet of warehouse housing materials for manufacturing racks and cables, and storing and tracking disposition of 48 rack configurations, 650 unique components and 400 produced products.
  • Testing for air/ground voice gateways, including developing test plans, test procedures, scenarios and cases to meet the Verification Requirements Traceability Matrix (VRTM), as well as conducting factory and verification and validation (V&V) tests.
