Crown Consulting Inc. has named Dr. Thomas Edwards as chief technology officer.

Edwards will provide technical leadership to all of Crown’s programs and spearhead Crown ’s efforts to help clients embrace new aerospace technologies. He also will guide Crown in broadening its aerospace market reach through forging partnerships with commercial and government aerospace research organizations.

Edwards brings more than 30 years of experience as a NASA researcher and executive. He is recognized for leading-edge research in aeronautics. He dedicated much of his career to leading development of air traffic management automation tools at NASA Ames Research Center, delivering to the FAA such critical NEXTGEN technologies as the Terminal Sequencing and Spacing system.

As Ames’ deputy center director, Edwards charted a new strategic direction for the Center, refocusing its thrusts in aeronautics, space technology, Earth and space science, astrobiology, and exploration of deep space.

“I am extremely excited at the opportunity to join the Crown team and help bring its considerable technical capability to bear on important national problems,” said Edwards.

Crown CEO Al Khan said: “Edwards’s keen understanding of how technical capabilities interrelate, along with his comprehensive understanding of national R&D priorities, will help ensure Crown’s laser focus on highly relevant challenges.”

Edwards holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University. As a Sloan Fellow, he earned an M.S. in Management from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.
