ARLINGTON, VA – Crown Consulting Inc. has been awarded the five-year, $121 million NASA Academic Mission Services 2 (NAMS-2) contract to provide aerospace and technology research and development support for NASA’s Ames Research Center.

Located in California’s Silicon Valley, Ames focuses on research and development that supports NASA’s overall goals in advancing aeronautics, science, space technology and human exploration. A team of organizations led by Crown, as prime contractor, will expand Ames’ capabilities with expertise, staffing and services that advance fundamental research and development, field-test deployments and operational missions during the five-year life of the contract.

The NAMS-2 research will focus on improving air traffic management to meet future aviation demands through ground-breaking research and development in topics such as:

  • Air traffic management, ATM safety and collaborative traffic management
  • Advanced software for digital Twin systems, National Airspace System digital transformation and secure airspace architectures
  • Urban air mobility airspace and advanced air mobility
  • Artificial intelligence, machine learning and data mining
  • Autonomous aircraft operations
  • Nanoelectronics and devices
  • Quantum computing technology

The companies, nonprofits and academic institutions that make up Team Crown bring a broad range of skills and expertise to the contract. Major partners are Noblis and Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA). Academic partners are the University of California Berkeley (UCB), Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) and MSI STEM Research and Development Consortium (MSRDC). Technical area partners are Acima Technical Services Inc., Infleqtion, Modern Technology Solutions Inc. (MTSI) and Redwire. Specialty area partners are Bay Area Environmental Research Institute (BAERI), National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) and the University of Maryland (UMD) Quantum Startup Foundry (QSF).

Ames and NAMS-2 researchers will collaborate on R&D projects with experts at other NASA centers, academia, federal organizations, not-for-profit organizations and industry.
