Project Overview

Crown created, built and tested prototypes for three successful NASA Airspace Technology Demonstrations.

Commonly referred to as ATD-1, ATD-2 and ATD-3, the demonstrations serve as testing grounds for traffic management capabilities slated for near-term Federal Aviation Administration use in airspace operations and ultimately for integration into the FAA’s long-term trajectory-based operations vision.

Crown’s contributions included:

  • Developing operational concepts, requirements and prototypes for highly efficient terminal sequencing and spacing, en route weather avoidance and multi-flight common routes.
  • Defining requirements and simulation testing to integrate new and legacy systems, resulting in deployment of terminal sequencing and spacing capability.
  • A real-time analysis tool for measuring system performance, health and predictability and quantify operational shortfalls to remedy through integrated arrival, departure and surface scheduling methods.
